The NEiD (New European Identity) project is a collaboration between four European schools of art and design. The participating academies are: Helsinki University of Art and Design, Design Academy Eindhoven, Iceland Academy of the Arts and Estonian collage of arts Tallin, from which a total of six students were chosen to join the project. The aim and purpose of NEiD, was for students of fashion, textile and jewellery design to research their European heritage and folklore in order to find new ways of interpreting the European identity. The theme for NEiD 2008 was Rites of Passage: birth, wedding and death. Each student made their personal research on one of these topics both in their home country as well as in one of the other four countries. The students worked individually on their personal projects in order to create new designs.
